ARTISTS AT THE CENTRE OF BRITAIN
SIMON TERRY
A longstanding friend of the Centre of Britain, Simon has given many lecture sessions
on art and artists at our residential study weekends. He is based at Felton,
Northumberland and is a part time lecturer in Art and Art History in sites
throughout the County, and is now teaching basic lino printing. He has prints in
Galleries, in Alnmouth and Hexham. Simon is a regular guest instructor at the
prestigious Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne
When we opened the Hotel, Simon was commissioned by us to create the Triptych
on the long wall in the Garden Suite. Each painting in the triptych is a collage
depicting the three great epochs of the town's history:-
ROMAN REIVER INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.
Finally, the fourth, large painting was commissioned with the remit to show how the past epochs now combine to present, perhaps the best basis for the future, new epoch of Haltwhistle as a tourism objective, appealing to visitors from all over world.
Not aiming to depict any particular scene, the painting combines symbolic architectural, historic and landscape features of Haltwhistle and the surrounding area.
